Snow

sitting on my couch
not sure if I can get up
after shoveling

rabbit tracks-
a snowy owl
motionless

Frustrations

feeling impotent
my head full of words but I’m
unable to speak

snow fall-
staring out my
hospital window

Bats

shrinking from the light
blended into the shadows
I’m invisible

dusk-
black clouds
rise from the earth

Solstice

the solar transit
far to brief indeed on this
winter solstice day

winter reborn-
I depart and return
in darkness

Darkness

in the evening sky-
the suggestion of darkness
from the crescent moon

new moon-
black before
the dark of night

Overtaken

shutting out the crowd
absolutely enthralled by
the shape of your words

rising moon-
night rolls over
the winter hills

Sense

waiting on my touch
your warm skin rising up in
anticipation

rose petals-
the taste of
your breath

Snow

the taste of winter
falling from the sky for miles
to melt on my tongue

platform two-
frost gathers
on my lashes

Destinations

southward flying geese
their long journey just begun
as mine is ending

warm boots-
my old dog’s
snowy muzzle

Tragedy

echoing silence-
bodies strewn haphazardly
on the downtown streets

an absence of birds-
villagers gather fish
in the receding sea
