Glimmer

the edge of the moon
nicks the night sky and reveals
the bare hint of light

cloaked in darkness-
betrayed by
a cigarette

Solitude

shut in this fortress
long days spent looking over
my kingdom of sand

rising tides-
my castle begins
to crumble

Transience

hallucinations-
my ephemeral partners
along for the ride

water lilies-
a pond dimpled
by dragonflies

Shade

late sun at our backs
walking the path before us-
intertwined shadows

passing time-
in the corners
collecting shadows

Puddles

a rippling sky
cast in all directions by
a child’s rubber boots

parting clouds-
blue jays bathe
in tiny ponds

Fog

sand hill cranes glide through
frost smoke on a mountain lake
as the day begins

coming ashore-
fog blankets
the lighthouse

Ballerina

tiny ballet shoes-
waiting for the curtain in
crinoline and lace

sunday afternoon-
long hours
at the barre

Shadows

moonlight in the trees-
silently a cold wind shifts
shadows on the snow

long shadows-
the warm wind
walks me home

Sails

white on shades of blue-
the day ends as sailors tire
of chasing the wind

moonlight-
sailboats crease
the black water

Nosferatu

hiding from the sun
living in the shadows while
I curse the darkness

the moon obscured-
my ancient thirst
unslaked
