Wind

golden fields of wheat-
long blades of giant windmills
lazily turning

arid sun-
sagebrush
swirls in wind

Night

withered autumn leaves-
not sure if he’ll live to see
another sunrise

desert stars-
hard and blue
in the moonlight

Mist

in the morning sun
slight pockets of fog linger
on winter hillsides

morning mist-
migrating geese
hug the shore

Gathering

winter moths gather-
snowflakes lit by the street lamp
in the bitter night

gathering drifts-
ice crawls up
my window

Ice

far icy mountains
bathed in shades of white and blue
float on arctic seas

broken ice-
polar bears
search for respite

Bows

cloudless starlit skies-
a pale white moonbow appears
above the aspen

double rainbow-
a gracious gift
after the storm

Fire

warm embers of clouds
gilded rose and violet
from the rising sun

dawn moon-
a crow alights
on an ashen branch

Lantern

at the forest’s edge
a guttering lantern hangs
from a shepherd’s crook

winter stars-
the warm glow
of a coach lamp

Ice

an overnight storm
invades my dreams and I wake
to trees turned to glass

frozen rain-
crystal branches
brush the ground

Bloodmoon

a nested raven-
spreads his ebon wings beneath
the lunar eclipse

winter sky-
the moon
as blood
