Humanity

the fifth of July
a time for reflection on
what we have become

saguaro cactus-
a small sneaker
in the sand

Independence

canons and mortars-
our patriotic fervor
lights up the night sky

fireworks
the dog hides
under my bed

Hunt

above the highway
a red tailed hawk circling
riding the thermals

hunting-
an osprey plummets
to the sea

Seas

waiting for the sea-
an ancient mariner mourns
the arriving tide

bedraggled skies-
limp with rain over
an unkempt sea

Café

a sidewalk cafe-
lunch forgotten as a crow
lands on my table

al fresco-
a rain drop
in my coffee

Waterfall

born of the mountains
falling over age worn stone
scattering the sun

summer solstice-
roaring water
fills my ears

Age

as day turns to night
the sun gives her dying light
to the mountain tops

mountain peaks-
aging temples
streaked with snow

TEST

the bathroom mirror-a message written in steamappears in your hand–starlit noon-steam poursfrom off the rocks

Lightning

low rolling thunder-
lightning crawls across the sky
rattling windows

summer night-
the sky lit by
heat lightning

Sea

offshore thunderstorms-
an old salt returns to the
bosom of the sea

crimson skies
a funeral boat
adrift and alight
