Meteor

a great streak of fire
across the afternoon sky-
shattered panes of glass

the small hours-
lawn chairs and
shooting stars

Rowboat

oars carve the water-
echoes of my lover’s voice
from the other shore

pale skin freckled-
fingers threading
through the water

Clouds

a dandelion seed
lazily drifts through the sky
as I watch the clouds

freshly cut grass-
making sculptures
from the clouds

Passing

one flame extinguished
while another adds it’s light
to the firmament

eyes downcast-
black armbands
wet with rain

Watching

the sky fades to black-
another episode down
with your hand in mine

crisp night air-
the pleiades
overhead

Summer

searing hot asphalt-
children splash in the water
from a cracked hydrant

heavy branches-
in the shade
a rope swing

Blue

frosted azure skies-
the curves of a white dragon
taken by the wind

pencil thin clouds-
the ocean reaches out
to touch the sky

Heat

atop cotton sheets
the drone of the ceiling fan
keeping me awake

sleeping dogs-
paddle fans spin
in lazy circles

Religion

knelt down before you-
my voice offered as a sign
of my devotion

scorched copper sky-
blood I’ve spilled
on your alter

Night

walking to the car
mercury vapor street lamps
spilling blue green light

drizzle-
moths dance
in the streetlights
