Fire

whispers of thunder
dry lightning in distant hills
the rain long absent

autumn hills-
ashes rain
on the valley

Shelter

hard rain pelts the trees-
a hummingbird takes shelter
on my windowsill

desert noon-
seeking shelter
beneath the sand

Welcome

strange and foreign shores-
weary travelers embark
on their next journey

soft underbrush-
a fawn turns to the
welcoming sun

Smoke

gauzy hardwood smoke
rises into the night air
obscuring the moon

drifting embers-
folding chairs
around the fire

Snow

snow covered pines-
evergreen branches droop low
just before they break

falling snow-
a large crow
in the holly bush

Listen

earbuds on silent-
subtly eavesdropping on
your conversation

sudden chills-
mantras I whisper
to myself

Cut

mirror finished steel-
chrome and crimson upwell as
I lick the razor

melting ice-
warm and salty
on my tongue

Grey

an arctic grey wolf
arrives on the cold north wind
and sinks its teeth in

grey clouds-
english ivy
turned to glass

Frost

a carpet of frost
woven from the morning dew
spreads across the grass

wrought iron trellis-
late autumn roses
frosted with white

Wind

sudden autumn snow-
wind blown beauty and carnage
behind in its wake

cold winds-
whorls and eddies
of fallen leaves
