Phoenix
engulfed in blue flames-
as my life turns to ashes
I step out reborn
–
down among the ashes-
the rain arrives
far too late
engulfed in blue flames-
as my life turns to ashes
I step out reborn
–
down among the ashes-
the rain arrives
far too late
pinpoints of silver-
constellations embroidered
on a velvet sky
–
woolen blankets-
meteor spotting
on a winter night
lost in the mirror-
years collecting on the floor
‘neath the barber’s chair
–
wading-
knee deep
in the past
a cold water flat-
the pilot light on the stove
sputters and goes out
–
new year’s eve-
the rent check
overdue
the soft light of dawn-
dim street lamps gutter above
aging cobblestones
–
threads of smoke-
last nights embers
turn to ash
linens on the line-
warm peals of children’s laughter
waft in on the breeze
–
wicker baskets-
a coffee can of
broken clothespins
october sunrise-
ivy on the stone facade
silver in the dew
–
grey stone walls-
saplings rooted
in old pastures
highway median-
long neglected grasses sway
with the passing cars
–
towering light pole-
a red tailed hawk
spots it’s prey
leaves soft underfoot-
in the dawning mist great oaks
fade into the sky
–
blackbird-
morning fog
through the trees
whitewashed beach shanties-
a path of crushed coral ends
at the ebbing tide
–
salt air-
a gull’s cry
above the surf
