Commuter

rolling through the miles
cityscapes and farmer’s fields
pass by my window

morning commute-
the train’s shadow
among the trees

Peach

tequila sunrise-
sitting at a seaside bar
watching the sun set

becoming autumn-
honey and peach
on an azure sky

Water

an inverted sky
the image of autumn clouds
broken by a fish

fall rain-
ripples spread across
a hidden pond

Squirrel

deep in the pine boughs
two gray squirrels chase each other
around the tree trunks

gray squirrel-
scolding me
from on high

Mist

on a sun warmed lake
fog’s skeletal fingers reach
for the morning moon

barefoot children-
laughter coats
the evening grass

Desert

the cruel midday sun-
neat rows of old cars in their
final rusting place

high noon-
steam billows from
my open hood

Reservoir

clouds in the water
far on the opposite shore
the blue pump house roof

changing leaves
painted at the
waterline

Thunder

early autumn storms-
dark roiling thunderclouds vent
their mottled fury

distant thunder-
a cloud of starlings
darken the sky

Gone

our long entrance hall-
the empty peg on the wall
where your coat once hung

distant smoke-
years of farmland
turned to ash
