Worry
Life’s simple pleasures
Are often overlooked by
Those who need them most
Life’s simple pleasures
Are often overlooked by
Those who need them most
Cherish today, for
tomorrow’s promise is too
easily broken
A humid spring day
Sudden rain soaks the asphalt
And leaves it steaming
Crowns of barren trees
Dipped in the gold of sunrise
Turn to burnished bronze
Crystals born of dust
Falling from the firmament
Alight on my tongue
Winter’s minion howls
It’s frigid moonlight keening
Rends the mind and soul
Midnight’s lustrous moon
Bears witness to the promise
Of the newborn year.
Winter’s trees stand watch
Their last recalcitrant leaves
Heralding the spring
In a basement bar
Listening to live music
With my lovely wife
Unburdened release
Fetters of my own design
Finally unlocked
