Caution

Lessons from the past
Harbingers of the future
We choose to ignore

Amour

Lost in the moment
The rise and fall of your breast
As you fall asleep

Peep

The springtime wetland
Chorus comes alive at dusk
As the peep frogs sing

Hope

From the sheer cliff face
An eager seedling rises
Grasping at the sun

Walden

Through the morning mist
A wading crane, motionless
Suddenly takes flight

Beginning

Darkness enshrouds me
While subtle forces gently
Send me toward the light

Refuse

An old cigarette
And me, both discarded trash
That once touched your lips

Relief

I wonder what kind
Of man I would have become
If we hadn’t met

Serenity

A lake flat as glass
The calm belies the hunger
Beneath the surface

Summer

Draped on an elm bough
Branches dapple the sunlight
That warms up my cat
