Gouache

curling photographs-
remnants of an age gone by
taped to my mirror

sepia trees-
winter morning’s
gentle light

Passion

your head on my chest-
falling asleep together
in the afterglow

a warm breeze-
tangled together
in the tall grass

Risk

the time has come to
take my heart down off the shelf
and gift it to you

long winter shadows-
a snowshoe hare
braves the sun

Cats

a grin escapes me-
one unseen piece of salmon
stuck to my cats nose

in the shadows-
my petite
stalker

History

cracks in the pavement
mirrored by the crows feet in
a homeless man’s face

ruins-
ivy climbs
crumbling walls

Ice

long icicles cling
tenaciously to the rocks
and flow to the ground

ice jam
the rising waters
chill my soul

Distance

from a different life
the passing of an old friend
rests on my shoulders

moonrise-
a silver wind
sways the curtains

Patience

waiting on my turn-
step by step moving forward
ever so slowly

traffic-
another day
turns to night

Shower

caught out in squall
running through the rain, wet hair
plastered to her head

evening rain-
stepping from
a warm bath

Ashes

the black charred remnants
of forty years of marriage
smolder between us

a fallen tree-
reduced
to ash
